If you’re styling your bachelor pad for the first time, you might feel overwhelmed by popular culture. Traditional bachelor pads are typically portrayed as very masculine, set up for raging parties, yet also sophisticated to a certain degree as well. If you’re unsure where to get started with your bachelor pad, here are some of our favorite tips to help you out:
- Stop worrying about the stereotypes.
The point of having a bachelor pad is that you’re a single bachelor—you don’t have to compromise for anyone else yet! Take advantage of having the full freedom to incorporate your hobbies, paraphernalia, and personal tastes into your decor scheme. Your home doesn’t have to be styled like a hunting lodge or speakeasy bar like the bachelor pads in movies…unless you want it to be!
- Get creative about meeting your needs.
Smart homes are the big trend in Bay Area bachelor pads right now, and we don't expect these tech-powered homes to go away any time soon! However, many guys design a smart home based solely upon what they think looks cool in their friends' houses, instead of thinking about their needs first. What bugs you about your current home, and what can you do to fix it? Here are some examples:
- Do you hate losing your USB wall charger adapters all the time? Maybe you should just install power plates which include USB ports in them.
- Do your guests get confused by which light switches control which lights in your home? Consider a floor plan light switch panel instead.
- Are you notorious for forgetting your keys everywhere? Cut down on the time you waste searching for them with a smart lock
- Make your decor functional.
Men’s brains are wired to solve problems and be practical, so sometimes our decor takes a back seat to functionality. But you can avoid this problem if you think about your favorite useful objects as decor items! For example, if you love biking, hang your bike on the wall so it can double as statement art. If you have an amazing record collection, turn the most attractive albums into a gallery wall.
- Make it friend-friendly.
The best part of a bachelor pad is getting to entertain your way, and maybe save a little money at the same time. (After all, have you seen California gas prices lately?) So think about what you like to do with your friends when you go out, and bring that same experience into your home. If you guys like to alternate between foosball, air hockey, and pool, consider investing in a combination game table with all three. If you’re a movie buff, set up a luxurious home theatre.
- Be bold.
You’ll only be disappointed in your space if you shy away from experimenting and finding decor that speaks to you. If this is your first time living on your own, you may have grown up in a home with conservative, generic furniture. Or maybe you’ve never been allowed to choose your own furniture before, so you’re not sure what you even like. We recommend walking around a Sofa Creations show room to find some pieces that look nothing like the place you came from. Maybe you’ll be drawn to a retro Channelback Sofa, an ultra modern Fjords Hans Recliner, or even a rolling Hemsworth Leather Bench! You’ll never know what’s out there if you don’t dive in on your own.
- Customize anything and everything you want.
We said it before and we’ll say it again… The best part about being a single bachelor is you don't have to think about anyone else’s opinions right now! So if you want to build a custom bar with your favorite beer on tap, go for it. If you want to hang a projector screen that takes up an entire wall in your DIY home theatre, just do it. And if you aren't happy with standard seating options at chain furniture stores, design a custom sofa or sectional with us. Choose from dozens of materials, shapes, and styles, and then give us your exact measurement requirements so your man cave has the perfect place to relax at the end of the day!
